Collection: Tourmaline

Found all over the world, tourmalines come in a variety of colors, from black (the most common and least valuable) to the spectacular  electric blue color of Parieba tourmalines from Brazil.  One of the prettiest and most unusual forms of tourmaline is watermelon tourmaline where two colors (usually pink and green) naturally occur in a single crystal.  These come in two types, one is called  bicolor tourmaline where the crystal is pink at one end and green at the other.  There are usually cut into long, narrow rectangles to best show the color change.  The other type is a watermelon slice cut from a crystal that is pink in the center and green around the rim. Slices are cut and polished across the crystal like you would cut across a watermelon.  Tourmalines register between 7 - 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, so they are appropriate for everyday wear, but not for digging in the garden.
